Words to live with

Happy 2019! Some of you may be familiar with the idea of a power word and how to incorporate it into your daily life. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept, it’s really quite simple. Choose a word that symbolizes what’s most needed for you in the coming months, give yourself time to meditate on what resonates with you in your life ahead as a theme of sorts to help guide and keep you focused. Perhaps “focus” or “guide” will even be one of the words that you feel drawn to choose from. Regardless, the idea is that whatever word connects with you and whatever is happening or that you want to happen in this year is your power word. Another idea that’s more recently gaining in popularity are power phrases so if this is more appealing to you than go with that. There’s no right or wrong with this idea.

Once you’ve chosen a word or words, find ways to incorporate it into your day be it by creating a mantra that includes the word (if a mantra isn’t something you’ve already chosen to go with), setting a daily reminder for yourself on your devices that uses the word or words, or adding it in with any goals you’ve made for yourself this year.

Words have power, especially when spoken over and over….so have a power word or words to keep you lifted as we ride the wave of wildness this year will surely bring.

Changing with the seasons

With each change of season differences in the body and mind surface. When we’re aware of these differences occurring we can adjust our daily practices accordingly to maximize how we move through each season.

Autumn is a wonderful time for letting go of the intensity of summer and the frenetic pace that accompanies the heat of the sun. However, it can be challenging transitioning to a slower pace because we live in a time where rarely stopping is rewarded more than admonished.

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us, and often telling us that it’s not happy or healthy, but we have gotten less and less connected with our body and talking with it in the name of advancing our lives or relationships or personal achievements.

I would like to invite you this season to honor what your body is saying to you. Perhaps it needs to stop moving so much, or maybe it needs to move in different ways. It IS communicating with you tho, right now even. So pause from reading this and just turn your attention inward for a few minutes. If you want to get into a more comfortable position to do this go ahead. But just breathe and really tune in to all the parts of your body and see what they may be saying. Make a mental or actual note of anything that comes up and thank your body for telling you what it needs.

Then, after you’ve given yourself this time, honor your bodies request(s) – be it by bathing in the forest (or in your bathtub) or taking a nap. Maybe your body needs to dance or just lie down for a bit and rest. But it WILL tell you, more often than not, what will help it to be healthier and happier. No matter what the season ❤️

On living gracefully

You’re just in time and I’m happy you’ve arrived. Let’s keep each other company always, ok? That way we can always have each other’s backs. And fronts and sides.

So what does living gracefully look like? Since officially becoming Grace last November (and before that really but even more so after November) I’ve asked myself that question multiple times a day – it was definitely the impetus for changing my name since I was not always able to be as graceful as I would’ve liked, heck, are any of us ever as graceful as we’d like to be? Well, perhaps not as much as we’d like to be but I imagine, in most cases, we are as graceful as much as we can be given the circumstance.

Graceful is defined as characterized by elegance or beauty of form, manner, movement, or speech; elegant. To live this way, regardless of your circumstance, is perhaps more idealistic than is reasonable for some, maybe many even, but I’m pretty sure it all just comes down to perspective. Also, striving for the ideal is within all of our abilities, regardless of your circumstance.

Of course when we look at elegance as part of gracefulness it’s easy to see where there may be some divide in how what we see ourselves as being defined unfortunately affecting whether we can be indeed graceful. Leaving the superior, dignified, refined aspects of elegant aside, let’s focus on the remarkably good part of elegance for just a moment – so much about us is that we are good, many times, remarkably so and we can hold on to that and work with that for the time being if that’s all we’ve got.

Because then there’s also beauty tucked in there and we all know about that being in the eye of the beholder so what if you don’t feel beautiful, can you still be graceful, live life gracefully? Of course you can. We all can. We would ALL benefit from being graceful and over the coming days, weeks, etc. I’ll be writing and encouraging you, giving examples and sharing my own experiences with you so that we can live gracefully, beautifully, and all the other good ways there are to live.
